The Commemorative Air Force Red Tail Squadron is scheduled to attend the 2017 Gulf Coast Salute Air Show at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, April 22-23.
The CAF Red Tail Squadron, a tribute to the legendary Tuskegee Airmen of World War II, will bring a P-51C Mustang to perform at the air show.
The Red Tails trace their heritage back to World War II, when the U.S. Army Air Corps decided to create flight program for black Americans to become military pilots. They later became known as the Tuskegee Airmen, completing 1,578 combat missions, three Distinguished Unit Citations, and many individual accomplishments.
The 301st Fighter Squadron, now stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base and flying the F-22 Raptor, belonged to the Red Tails.
